Walk #1
Walk #1 is a performance produced specifically for Projekt Kaufhaus Joske and references the original function of the Joske department store situated in Leipzig-Plagwitz. The store offered its mostly working class customers the commodities of everyday necessity. Using the format of a fashion show, Walk #1 casts a melancholic glance at a time in which workers still identified with their professions without following the imperative of self-fulfilment. The piece is an attempt to deal with several sources of confusion: What is the role of clothing in the system of fashion? Is the dangerous liaison between commodities and culture no longer revocable? Are performance and pop art born of the same spirit?
